The BMW F800GS is one of the newest GS bikes launched by BMW, in 2008. The F800 GS uses a 79cc parallel twin cylinder engine and has a chain drive, as opposed to the drive shaft used by bigger cylinder BMW GS bikes. The engine on the F800GS has a different angle, located further backwards to allow off road oriented suspension travel, longer than standard setups.
The BMW F800GS outputs 85bhp with a top speed of over 200Km/h. It has 21 and 17 inch front and rear wheels (spoked), respectively. Fuel consumption sits somewhere between 3.8 and 5.2L depending on conditions and the bike has a 400W alternator. The dry weight of the bike is just 185Kg and it has a 16L fuel tank, 4L of which is reserve.
It’s proven to be a very popular bike, situated between the F650GS (the newest model of which uses the same engine as the F800GS) and the 1000cc + BMW GS bikes. It’s clear the F800GS with it’s distinct looks occupies a popular niche.

Official BMW GS accessories for the F800GS include: heated grips for colder weather, ABS system for safer braking, an onboard computer, a lower seat for vertically challenged riders, an alarm system, LED indicator lights and a centre stand for easier maintenance. Some of these accessories are bundled in a “Comfort Package”, which includes the center stand, heated grips and ABS. This bundle comes at a cheaper prices than purchasing the components separately.

As usual for such a popular BMW GS bike, there are many aftermarket options available. Touratech provides several aftermarket seats for the F800GS, which offer increased or decreased height, extra comfort and even a seat made from breathable material for hotter climates. The weight of this device is just over 3Kg. Leo Vinci also makes an aftermarket exhaust for the F800GS. BOS is another company that makes aftermarket exhausts for this bike. There is a carbon finish and a stainless steel finish; the latter being quite a bit cheaper than the carbon model. Other models are manufactured by SBK, QD, Arrow, Akrapovic, Holeshot and Two Bros.

BMW F800GS accessories: panniers and luggage accessories
As usual Touratech makes panniers for this model GS. Models include the Zega Pro panniers and Zega Original panniers for the F800GS. The Zega Pro panniers come in a black anodized finish as well as a slightly cheaper sliver finish. A set of these Zega Pro panniers is delivered with strong tubular mounting racks and have a volume of 31 + 38L of space.
The Zega Original panniers are a few 100 dollars cheaper than the Pro panniers and have a more square look. These F800GS panniers are a very popular accessory for this model bike. They come in 29 / 35L combos or even larger 41 / 41 liter boxes. Great BMW F800GS accessories for long range touring!
